The whole concept of going through a crashed hard drive recovery situation can be really scary. When people think about the concept of a crashed hard drive, the first thing that springs to mind is data loss. Data loss is no fun. Whether it’s your business with important files and documents, or your own personal precious pictures and videos, losing data can be a very traumatic and nerve-racking situation. If you’ve never experienced a crashed hard drive or losing data before, it can be very stressful situation as you wonder what to do next.
Here are the next steps to take if your computer does not bring up the operating system:
1. Don't stress out or let the situation get the best of you. You should always remain calm and know that there are some good options out there to help you recover your data. In most cases, your data can be recovered, which is always good news.
2. Determine if your hard drive is making noises that are unusual (such as clicking, whirling, whacking noises, etc).
a. If experiencing hard drive noises, turn off your computer immediately! If you hear unusual noises, that's a clear indicator that the mechanical hardware of your hard drive crashed. By all means, do not try to disassemble and repair your hard drive yourself since the professionals who do hard drive recovery are required to work in a clean room.
b. Do not turn it back on because the noises might indicate that additional damage is occurring to your hard drive which could lessen your chance of full data recovery.
c. Call a trusted Data Recovery company. I recommend DriveSavers because of their great reputation for successful data recovery, quick turnaround and discounted prices. In addition, they also will provide a free estimate over the phone. After the free estimate, you can decide if you want to go with their offer, or determine how you want to proceed. Keep in mind that although it may be costly, DriveSavers is the best data recovery provider available and they can give you the greatest chance for recovering your data. They are much more cheaper than other companies who provide crashed hard drive recovery services such as Ontrack. Here is DriveSaver's link: DriveSavers Crashed Hard Drive Recovery
3. If you don't hear unusual hard drive noises and would just like to have a technician handle the problem, take take your computer to a local trusted computer shop to proceed with recovering your operating system/data. If you are in the Pierce County area in Washington, feel free to contact The PC Rescue Man and we'll get you up and running quickly.
Stay tuned for future posts and I will discuss things such as how to recover deleted files from your operating system. Stay safe!
